Follow Me
I once saw a poster that read, "Do what scares you ... until it doesn't." That stuck with me for a few days, and I thought a lot about the truth in it. When I first began speaking to kids in schools about my books, the thought of standing before that demanding, non-nonsense crowd scared the spit out of me. But I did it anyway, and now I can speak with ease and comfort about books and writing anywhere and to any crowd. And I honestly enjoy it. If you look like you know what you're doing, people can be extremely supportive.
As a painter, I also have things that scare me ... and wish they didn't. So I am going to bank on my successes in public speaking and just dang do it. What scars me in painting is rendering people, animals, and vehicles. I know I can do it. I have a couple of successful attempts (and many, many scrape-aways). But finding consistency will take time and practice. So this silly little piece of two cars in the country is a step in that direction. Do what scares you ... until it doesn't. Good words to grow by.
